Q-TIPS NOT UTAHN!
This week my wife (my research partner) and I took a trip to Florida to see family and what not. While we traveled, paramount on our minds was the question "is the Q-tip a Utah culture thing or not?" As we traveled we were shocked to find that even after we far left the airport and got our selves deeper and deeper into Tampa - THE Q TIP WAS STILL EVERY WHERE! Granted it may have been a little teeny tiny bity less frequent. But really they were still every where we turned. Here is an unfortunate photo from the wedding we attended in Florida. The bride is beautiful and behind her, the photographer is sporting the dreaded TIP.

REACTIONS to THE BLOG
So far we have had different reactions to this blog. A few people were offended at the material seen here. I think that it would help to clearly define the purpose behind the message of this blog:

1. To raise awareness (or at least ask questions) about how prevalent this one hairstyle is.
2. To find the reasons behind WHY it is so pervasive, and to determine whether it is linked to the mormon/utah culture or not.
3. To express a strong, backed up opinion, that older women can look YOUNGER and MORE BEAUTIFUL by avoiding this common pitfall (getting the q tip) and keep their hair LONG! (Does every woman not want these things?)
4. To fly in the face of tradition and conformity, WHICH ARE NEVER GOOD ENOUGH REASONS TO DO ANYTHING!
5. To have a good poke and laugh at our own culture.
So if you are offended, there are probably one of two causes: 1) you have the q-tip and don't want to admit that it has been a mistake for the past 20 years when you've had it, or 2) you know someone with the q-tip and you are offende
d on their behalf (which by the way is PURE silliness). And I guess it is possible that one other reason could cause you to take offense. We will call this option 2.5) you are in my moms generation and are in denial that the Q-tip is a problem - BECAUSE YOU ARE NEXT AND IT WILL GET YOU!
If none of these justifications serve to help you be less offended, than read this one - it's just in fun. And try to comply with the old addage - "sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me." OR! Help me figure out this great mystery.
-Love-
